College Volleyball Scholarship Requirements.

Becoming a college volleyball player is much more than being a top tier athlete. In order to receive a volleyball scholarship you must meet both the academic and athletic criteria of each school. Every school has their way of choosing which athlete is the best fit for their program so this differs from each University. One good one to find out where you stand athletically is to look at their roster. Do their current players at your position match your height, stats, current achievements etc?

In regards the the academic requirements, the NCAA Eligibility Center has their very own specific academic requirements that athletes must meet to be eligible to compete at either the NCAA Division I or II levels. More often than not, if you meet the NCAA Division I requirements you will qualify for Division II also.

  • Graduate from high school.
  • Complete 16 core courses and receive a minimum GPA of 2.3 in those courses. Read more on academic requirements
  • Complete 10/16 of your core courses before your junior year.
  • Score a minimum of 400 on the SAT, math and reading section or a 37 on the ACT (sum score).
  • Ensure your current GPA meets your test score on the NCAA sliding scale.

What Is My Chances Of Playing College Volleyball?

Only around 5.9% of high school volleyball players will get the opportunity to compete at the college level and out of those athletes only 1.2% of those high school volleyball players will go on to play at the NCAA Division I level. In broader terms this means around 27,000 college volleyball players will compete in college in any division.

What Colleges Give Volleyball Scholarships?

There are currently over 1800 schools that have a volleyball team. The vast majority of these schools have scholarship money available to seem degree. Scholarship money is used to attract top talent and without that, the talent goes elsewhere. However it is extremely difficult to pin point which schools have money and how much as this changes almost every single year!
