DIVISION I COACH

Mike Sutton – One of the most respected coaches to ever walk a sideline. Sutton joins Hoop Assessment after 20 years of coaching at the Division I level. Both as a head coach and an assistant coach. Most notably Sutton has won a national championship as an assistant at Kentucky and has recruited over 50 pros in his time. According to Sutton, “This is important to me because it gives kids and parents the truth, no more guessing.”

Thomas Carr – At one point Thomas Carr was the youngest assistant coach in the country while winning a CAA conference championship under Kevin Keatts at UNCW. He later followed Keatts to NC State and now joins the Assessment team with 7 years of Division I coaching experience. Carr says, “this is a great idea that I wanted to be a part of for so many reasons and most notably because this is a tool that can change the landscape of grassroots basketball.”

Gus Hauser – Coach Hauser comes to the assessment team with 14 years of Division I experience. One of the most liked people the industry has ever seen. Gus has been very successful at every stop he has been too. With stints at Wofford, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana Lafeyette, New Mexico State and Louisville, Hauser knows how to evaluate and develop and is excited about the opportunity to give kids an honest assessment.

Rick Carter – Rick Carter currently has 16 years of Division I experience, with stops at Depaul, Xavier and Missouri. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge to the NextUpRecruitment. He is also the founder of “Spotter” a company over 75 Division I schools use for student athlete academic accountability.

Coach Esleeck

Doug Esleeck – North Carolina native Doug Esleeck joins the NextUpRecruitment staff with an abundance of coaching experience including serving seven years on the staff of Mercer University and most recently UNCW. Coach Esleeck does a great job recruiting and knows about every player in the state and area. He has a great rapport with players, does a great job of working out the players, and know what it takes to be successful.

Chris Ferguson – A veteran to coaching, Ferguson comes to Hoop Assessment with over 30 years of Division I experience. Ferguson has coached at multiple power 5 schools and has recruited, evaluated and signed 18 NBA players. According to Ferguson, “Hoop Assessment is a much needed tool for young players and families in today’s basketball, honesty can allow for growth.”

Saul Smith – With over 14 years of Division I coaching and a national championship at Kentucky as a player Saul comes to the assessment team ready to make a difference. A true players coach and the son of Tubby Smith he has been around the game since the time he was born. He has been successful everywhere he has been including 4 years in the Big Ten. Saul says, “I’m honored to be a part of this team and really looking forward to giving back.”

Mitchell Hill – Mitchell Hill has 6 years of coaching experience at the Division I level. As well as a successful playing career at Tennessee Tech. Coach Hill also has had stints on the staff at Winthrop and Tennessee Tech. Hill has had success everywhere he has been and knows how to get the best out of young talent.

Tai Young – Coach Young started his basketball career at Tennessee Tech University as a student assistant in 2011. After finishing his degree at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Young joined the staff as an assistant coach for the former 8x National Champions. Young has also served as an assistant coach at Pratt Community College and Division II powerhouse Lincoln Memorial University. University.
