COLLEGE BASEBALL

More opportunities exist than most players realize.

College baseball offers opportunities across NCAA, NAIA and junior college programs. Whether your goal is to compete at the highest level or find the college environment that fits you best, there are multiple pathways to continue playing baseball while earning your degree.

The challenge is that college baseball recruiting is highly competitive. Coaches evaluate players from high school programs, travel and club baseball, showcases, tournaments and recruiting events.

The players who take control of their recruitment can create more opportunities by getting their information, statistics and video in front of the right coaches.

HOW TO GET RECRUITED FOR BASEBALL

Talent matters. So does your recruitment strategy.

College baseball coaches evaluate thousands of players every year. Make it easy for coaches to understand your position, athletic ability, statistics, academics and potential fit with their program.

01 / PROFILE

Build Your Recruiting Profile

Include your graduation year, position, height, academics, statistics, measurables and video.

02 / METRICS

Know Your Numbers

Baseball coaches use measurable data to evaluate players, including velocity, exit velocity, speed and statistics.

03 / EXPOSURE

Build Your Exposure

Compete in strong environments, including school, travel baseball, showcases, tournaments and camps.

04 / CONNECT

Contact College Coaches

Send personalized communication and follow up consistently with programs that fit your level.

BASEBALL RECRUITING METRICS

Your numbers matter.

Baseball recruiting is highly measurable. Coaches often look at athletic testing, statistics and position-specific performance when evaluating players.

Keep your numbers accurate and updated so coaches can quickly understand your athletic profile.
01
Pitching Velocity Pitchers should keep their current velocity information accurate and clearly presented.
02
Exit Velocity Exit velocity can help demonstrate the quality of your contact and offensive potential.
03
60-Yard Dash Speed is an important athletic measurement for evaluating baseball players.
04
Game Statistics Keep your relevant batting, pitching and defensive statistics current and accurate.
BASEBALL RECRUITING VIDEO

Give coaches a reason to watch.

Your recruiting video is one of the most important tools you can use to introduce yourself to college coaches. Keep it clear, current and focused on your position.

01 / GAME FILM

Show Real Game Action

Coaches need to see how you perform in actual competitive situations.

02 / POSITION

Show Your Position

Make it easy for coaches to evaluate the skills specific to your position.

03 / METRICS

Include Your Numbers

Clearly present relevant measurements and statistics alongside your video.

04 / UPDATE

Keep Film Current

Replace old footage as you develop and your level of competition changes.

BASEBALL EXPOSURE

Exposure can open doors. Strategy gets you through them.

Travel baseball, showcases, tournaments and camps can provide valuable opportunities to compete and be evaluated.

But simply attending events does not guarantee that a college coach will recruit you. Your exposure works best when it is combined with a strong profile, quality video, measurable information and proactive communication.
01
Compete Against Strong Competition Seek environments that challenge you and give coaches an opportunity to evaluate your ability.
02
Attend Relevant Events Choose showcases, tournaments and camps that align with your recruiting goals.
03
Know Your Level Build a realistic target list across appropriate college levels.
04
Turn Exposure Into Communication Put your profile, film and statistics directly in front of coaches who may be a fit.
BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIPS

How baseball scholarships work.

Baseball scholarship opportunities vary by division, school and program. Baseball has historically operated as an equivalency sport at the NCAA level, meaning athletic aid may be divided among multiple players. Division I rules changed beginning July 1, 2025, so athletes should always confirm current scholarship and roster policies directly with individual programs.

NCAA DIVISION I

Increased Scholarship Flexibility

Under the new Division I framework, sport-specific scholarship limits were removed for participating or opting-in schools and replaced with roster limits. Baseball has a 34-player roster limit.

NCAA DIVISION II

Equivalency Scholarships

Division II baseball operates under an equivalency scholarship model, allowing athletic aid to be distributed among multiple student-athletes.

NCAA DIVISION III

Academic & Need-Based Aid

Division III schools do not award athletic scholarships, but student-athletes may qualify for academic scholarships, grants and other forms of financial assistance.

NAIA

Athletic Aid Opportunities

NAIA programs can provide athletic scholarships, with opportunities varying by institution, program and individual recruiting needs.

NJCAA

Junior College Pathways

Junior college baseball can provide another route to compete, develop and potentially transfer to a four-year college program.

Important: Scholarship, roster and eligibility rules can change and vary by division and institution. Always confirm the details of an individual scholarship offer directly with the school, coaching staff and financial aid office.
WHAT COLLEGE BASEBALL COACHES LOOK FOR

More than just statistics.

Numbers matter in baseball, but coaches evaluate the complete player. Athletic ability, position-specific skills, baseball IQ, consistency, academics, work ethic and potential fit can all influence a recruiting decision.
Position Skills Show the technical skills required to play your position at the college level.
Athletic Ability Speed, strength, explosiveness and physical tools can help demonstrate your potential.
Baseball IQ Decision-making, awareness and understanding of the game matter beyond the numbers.
Consistency Coaches want to understand how you perform over time and against quality competition.
Measurables Relevant metrics can help coaches compare your athletic profile with other recruits.
Work Ethic Coaches want players who are competitive, coachable and committed to development.
Academics Academic performance can affect eligibility and the colleges available to you.
Character Attitude, leadership and how you fit within a program's culture matter.
ACADEMICS & ELIGIBILITY

Your baseball career is only part of the equation.

College coaches evaluate academics alongside athletic ability. Strong academic performance can also expand your college options and potentially open additional scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
01
Maintain Your Grades Academic performance can influence eligibility and the schools available to you.
02
Understand Eligibility Learn the academic requirements that apply to your intended division and recruiting pathway.

BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP FAQ

Common questions about baseball recruiting.

Understanding the process is the first step toward taking control of your recruitment.

How do I get a baseball scholarship?

Build a strong recruiting profile, develop your skills, create quality game film, track your statistics and measurables, identify programs that fit your ability and proactively communicate with college coaches.

Are baseball scholarships full scholarships?

Baseball scholarship opportunities vary by division and institution. Many programs distribute athletic aid among multiple players, while Division I scholarship rules changed beginning July 1, 2025.

Can international baseball players get scholarships?

Yes. International players can compete at U.S. colleges provided they meet the applicable academic, athletic and eligibility requirements.

Does travel baseball help with college recruiting?

Travel and club baseball can provide valuable competition and exposure, but playing travel baseball alone does not guarantee recruitment. Players still need strong profiles, video, measurable information and proactive communication.

What statistics do college baseball coaches look at?

Depending on position, coaches may evaluate statistics and measurements such as pitching velocity, exit velocity, 60-yard dash time, batting performance, defensive ability and game performance.

Yes. Players may compete without athletic scholarship aid, and depending on the school they may qualify for academic scholarships, grants or other forms of financial assistance.
