There a currently well over 1,500 college baseball programs with approximately 50,000 college baseball players currently competing. Baseball is an equivalency sport which means that scholarships are able to be divided up and give to multiple players. Meaning that full-ride scholarships are quite rare in college baseball. This means that some players do not receive any kind of athletic scholarship money. Which is why academics are so important to reducing the cost of school.
How Do I Contact College Baseball Coaches?
The most common practice when it comes to finding college baseball scholarships is email. This would require you to search the school directly in your search engine, navigate the staff directory and find the coaches contact information. We recommend doing this for as many schools as possible. The larger your net, the more fish you will catch! College Baseball Recruitment Profile.
Baseball recruitment profiles are very important. In order to increase your chances of securing a scholarship, making yourself accessible is key. A recruitment profile allows you to compile all of your important information into one place. This saves coaches lots of time and evades the risk of losing a coaches attention.
College Coaches Aren’t Responding To Me.
Sometimes college coaches do not respond to your first email. This doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t good enough, or that they aren’t interested. Coaches receive thousands of emails from prospects every single week. If after 1-2 weeks you haven’t heard anything, send them a follow up email, or give them a call. Being proactive within the recruitment process is very important.
How Many College Baseball Scholarships Are There?
There are 297 colleges and universities participating in NCAA Division I baseball. Each of these schools are allowed 11.7 full ride scholarships. Like we said earlier, because baseball is an equivalency sport, this means that coaches are able to divide their 11.7 scholarships up amongst the entire roster.
NCAA Division II baseball has 9 full tuition scholarships per team. With partial tuition scholarships being extremely common in Division II.
NCAA Division III baseball consists of 408 programs at colleges and universities. Division III schools are restricted from offering any baseball scholarships. Division III schools do however offer packages based on need and academic ability.
NAIA baseball consists of 214 schools. Each school is has a limit of 12 full ride scholarships. They are also able to offer partial scholarships as they see fit. Students who do really well in the classroom are usually able to secure other funding via academic scholarships that do not count against the teams total scholarship limit.
NJCAA Division I baseball consists of 188 teams. Each school is limited to 24 full ride scholarships to cover all expenses including tuition, books, and housing.
